What is the schedule during the week?

A complete schedule will be available when you arrive on campus, but you can expect:

7 – 8:15 a.m.: Breakfast
8:30 – 9:45 a.m.: Band rehearsal
10 – 11:15 a.m.: Sectionals or Chamber Music
11:30 – 12:30 p.m.: Lunch
12:45-2:00pm: Band Rehearsal
2:15 – 3:30 p.m.: Music Theory or Jazz Band
3:45 – 5 p.m.: Master Class
5 – 5:15 p.m.: Camp Meeting
5:30 – 6:30 p.m.: Dinner
6:30 – 9 p.m.: Recreational Activities
9:15 – 9:30 p.m.: Floor Meeting
10 p.m. – 6 a.m.: Lights Out

Where and when is the final concert?

The final concert will take place on the last Saturday of camp in the Illinois State University Center for Performing Arts at 1:00 PM. All family, friends, band directors and private teachers are invited to attend. The concert will last approximately two hours. After the concert you will be able to get your personal belongings and check out of your residence hall.

Who are the camp staff and faculty?

The Illinois State University Junior High Summer Band Camp Staff is made up of Illinois State University faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students. Participants are under 24-hour supervision from staff counselors and camp faculty. Camper to counselor ratio in past camps has been approximately 12:1.

What is the housing like?

Resident campers are housed in an air-conditioned dormitory on the westside of the Illinois State University campus. Meals in the adjacent cafeteria are included in the resident camper's fees. Meals are not included in the commuter participant's fees, but meals may be purchased on an individual basis at the cafeteria throughout the week.

Where are rehearsals and classes?

Rehearsals and classes take place in University Fine Arts facilities: Cook Hall (The "Castle"), Centennial East, Kemp Recital Hall, and the Center for Performing Arts. These buildings are all conveniently located on the quad of Illinois State University. Cook Hall includes three large rehearsal/class areas, individual practice modules, and studio room space for some master class activities. Centennial East is full of classrooms, which are ideal for theory instruction and master class activities as well. Kemp Recital Hall and the Center for Performing Arts are designed for large ensemble and jazz band rehearsals.

What are tuition and boarding rates?

Resident: $450 includes room and board as well as classes
Commuter: $225 tuition only, does not include meals

Who is eligible to participate?

All students entering grades 6 – 9 who play a band instrument are accepted to the camp as participants without audition.

Application and Deposit

At the time of application we ask for a deposit in the amount of $225 for resident campers and $112.50 for commuters. Checks may be made payable to ISU Bands.
